CHAMP members were special guests at this fun horse- and pony-themed art show opening. Some members arrived by horse-drawn wagon, others on horse and mule back.
This annual event allowed members and non-members to ride along the Bosque and enjoy the Fall colors. Thirty-five participants enjoyed the perfect day, the glorious colors, and the delicious lunch at the end.
CHAMP had horses and ponies available all day each day of the festival for rides and demonstrations. This was a hugely popular event; kids of all ages had a great time!
On Saturday the 9th CHAMP members dismantled all the horse pens so Village Parks and Recreation could weed and level the area. On the 16th members reassembled and reconfigured the pens. What an improvement!
A wonderful day with TTEAM practitioner Andrea Deane! Patience and step-by-step learning were the order of the day. Participants practiced techniques to release tension in both horse and rider, and to help condition the horse’s brain to think before reacting to scary objects.
Corrales 4th of July Parade
CHAMP joined in the fun this year with a contingency of member and non-member riders and drivers. A fun time was had by all!
Annual Recreational Ride
This was CHAMP’S 25th annual ride! Participating riders and drivers gathered, as is traditional, at Top Form Arena at the Corrales Recreation Center. A $30 charge included the ride + lunch + a tee shirt.
This popular and challenging course was designed to help desensitize horses to a variety of objects and situations that frequently cause them to spook. High praise has prompted requests to repeat this event more frequently than once a year.
Large Animal Evacuation Planning
Fire Chief Anthony Martinez led the discussion and was assisted by the Corrales Police and Animal Control staff. They reviewed important aspects of the Village’s Large Animal Emergency Evacuation Plan.
Pot Luck Dinner, Annual Meeting, and Election of Officers
Besides socializing with fellow CHAMP members, and electing new officers for the Board of Directors, we heard Dr. Ralph Zimmerman, the NM State Veterinarian, speak about the equine herpes outbreak last Spring and the possibility of future outbreaks.
Centered Riding Workshop
This was an indoor unmounted workshop with Christina Savitsky of Buckaroo Balance. She focused on Centered Riding exercises and we had the largest participation of any event in the past year!
